A possible Somme WW1 British War/Victory Medal pair to 40082 Pte CONNELL of the 6/7 Royal Scots Fusiliers

A WW1 British War & Victory Medal pair to 40082 Pte CONNELL, 6th/7th Royal Scots Fusiliers (a New Army battalion), formerly of 1st and 2nd Royal Scots Fusiliers.

Potted history of the regiment's service in WW1:

The 6th (Service) and 7th (Service) battalions were New Army battalions, of the first and second hundred thousand respectively.

In spring 1916 the 6th Battalion were in Flanders, under the command of one Lt-Col Winston Churchill, before moving down to the Somme and being amalgamated with the 7th Battalion in May 1916, prior to the Somme offensive. Both the 1st and 2nd battalions also served on the Somme.

Holder's possible service history:

A number of comrades with service numbers also in the 40,000 series appear on the Somme Roll of Honour, whilst a fellow private, with a service number only 5 lower than Pte Connell's, was buried on 31 January 1917 at CONTALMAISON CHATEAU CEMETERY, near Albert - a cemetery begun by fighting units on the evening of the 14th July, 1916, and used from September, 1916 to March, 1917 by Field Ambulances. It's therefore perhaps not unreasonable to assume that Pte Connell also served on the Somme at around this period.

Medal condition:

Very Fine on original period silk ribbons (a little distressed in the case of BWM).
