Posted to 1/5 Battalion, with British Egyptian Expeditionary Force, 3 June 1916, to 19 March 1918. Entries on conduct sheet (marked 3/5 Btn?) for October 1916. Slightly wounded (shrapnel abrasion to shoulder) 23 March 1917, then gun shot wound to chest 2 November 1917. Posted to Depot 23 March 1918. Brought before an Invaliding Board at no2 General Hospital, Leeds, December 1918. Discharged from No2 General Hospital 17 December 1918, age 26, no longer physically fit for war service (gun shot wound to right upper extremity). Awarded pension of 13/9 a week for 26 weeks from 18 December 1918. Credited 3 years 45 days service. Awarded British War Medal, Victory Medal, Silver War Badge and King's Certificate.
