Notes on battalion:

The 9th (Service) Battalion was one of nine active service battalions raised as part of Kitchener's New Army. Formed at York on 25 August 1914 as part of K1 it sailed from Liverpool on 3 July 1915 for Gallipoli via Mudros, landing at Suvla Bay on 6 August 1915. It was later transferred to the French Theatre, landing at Marseilles on 1 July 1916. It became the 9th (Yorkshire Hussars Yeomanry) Battalion on 13 November 1917 following the absorption of the 1/1st Yorkshire Hussars.
